Oats Lapsi Rava Idli | Oats Cracked Wheat Semolina Idli

Dalia|Broken Wheat|Cracke Wheat|Lapsi...this is usually had during fasts and since its whole wheat has the fiber and all the benefits of wheat. This when added with Healthy Oats and veggies is a great power breakfast.

Tastes very delicious and quite easy to make too!

Oats Lapsi Rava Idli | Oats Cracked Wheat Semolina Idli

INGREDIENTS


1 cup Lapsi Rava | Dalia | Broken Wheat, fine
1 cup Oats
1 cup Dahi | Curd, thick
2 Green chilli, finely chopped
1"Adrak | Ginger, finely chopped
2 tbsp Fresh Dhania | Coriander Leaves, finely chopped
2 tbsp Carrot, grated
8 French Beans, finely chopped
3/4 tsp Fruit Salt
1/2 tsp Olive oil, to grease Idli moulds
Salt to taste
For tempering:
1/2 tsp Rai | Mustard Seeds
1/2 tsp Urad Dal
1/2 tsp Kali Miri | Black Pepper, roughly crushed
A pinch Hing | Asafoetida Powder
1 sprig Kadhi Pata | Curry Leaves, finely chopped
1 tsp Olive oil (any cooking oil will do)

METHOD
  • In a pan roast the Oats taking care it does not get burnt for about 5 minutes. In a mixer pulse this roasted oats to get a rough powder. Transfer this into a mixing bowl.
  • In the same pan roast Lapsi Rava for about 2 minutes. This is just to warm Lapsi Rava. Transfer this into the mixing bowl.
  • In the same pan, heat the oil for tempering. Add mustard seeds and when it splutters add urad dal, crushed pepper, hing powder and curry leaves. Once tempered, pour this into the mixing bowl.
  • Grease Idli moulds with oil.
  • Mix all the remaining ingredients except Fruit Salt. Check for salt and adjust to taste. The consistency of batter should be thick.
  • Add Fruit Salt and mix well. This will loosen up batter due to the aeration process.
  • Pour spoonfuls of the batter into Idli mould as we normally prepare Idlis.
  • Keep the moulds in the steamer and steam for 15 minutes. In case using a pressure cooker, steam them for 15 minutes without the whistle.
  • Serve the healthy nutritious Oats Lapsi Rava Idlis with any Podi|Chutney|Thogaiyal and Sambar|Rasam. These Idlis can be had just like that without any accompaniment too!!
For this quantity, we get  16 idlis. We relished this with Homemade Molga Podi and fruits. Hope you enjoy these idlis which are full of nutrition!

Note:
a. You can make roasted Lapsi Rava and ground roasted Oats, mix it and store. Once this is done then this is an instant Idli recipe that can be made quick in the hustle bustle of the morning!
