4 Dal Idli - a multi lentil soft and fluffy Breakfast Option! NO RICE! Diabetic Friendly!

Apart from the regular traditional Idlis and the variety of Idlis with Millets | Oats | Wheat Rava | Rava Idli...this 4 Dal Idli is loved by all of us as this is super delicious and can be made with absolutely NO RICE!!! This is a healthy Breakfast | Snack option even for those for whom Rice may be a restriction due to medical concerns!

I love this Idli and I relish it just as is. Hence this is a most frequent option in my Tiffin Box too as even at room temperature this tastes YUM!

Appa too loves this Idli and Amma makes this version atleast twice a month! Being lentil based this is great in terms of protein too!

INGREDIENTS

1/2 cup Channa Dal
1/4 cup Urad Dal
1/4 cup Toor Dal
1/4 cup Yellow Moong Dal
1 tsp Adrak | Ginger, finely chopped
2 Green Chillies, finely chopped
1 tblsp Fresh Dhania | Coriander Leaves, finely chopped
1 tblsp Gajar | Carrot, grated
To taste Salt
Oil to grease Idli moulds

METHOD
  • Wash and soak all Dals for two hours. Drain and keep aside.
  • Grind soaked Dals to a coarse thick paste. The Dals should resemble like Rava | Semolina.
  • In a mixing bowl transfer Dal paste. Add salt and mix well. Keep overnight or for atleast 8 hours to ferment. Ensure the bowl or vessel is half filled with the dal paste as after fermentation this will nearly double in quantity.
  • Add adrak, green chillies, grated carrot, chopped dhania and mix well with the fermented batter.
  • The consistency of the batter should be thick like normal Idli batter. Adjust accordingly by adding required water.
  • Grease Idli moulds with oil.
  • Pour spoonfuls of the batter into Idli mould as we normally prepare Idlis.
  • Keep the moulds in the steamer and steam for 15 minutes. In case using a pressure cooker, steam them for 15 minutes without the whistle.
  • After 15 minutes, remove 4 Dal Idli and once a bit cool, demould.
  • Serve healthy, nutritious and delicious 4 Dal Idlis with any Sambar and Podi | Chutney | Thogaiyal.
  • These Idlis can be had just like that without any accompaniment too!!
For this quantity, we get  12 idlis. We relished it along with Sambar

We have used:
1. Tata Salt Lite
2. Til Sona Sesame Oil
