Flaxseed Millet Walnut Ladoo - A globe of goodness! Winter Special!

The goodness of Flaxseed | Bajra & Jowar - Millets | Walnuts gets amplified when bound in this delicious globe of goodness!

Flaxseed also known as Alsi is rich in anti oxidants | fiber | lignans | Omega 3 essential fatty acids. Both Bajra and Jowar are gluten free and hold a host of health benefits. Walnuts are rich in heart healthy fats and high in antioxidants.Whatever be the benefits, that is a bonus as this tastes so delicious it takes herculean efforts to control and limit at one!

When I get irritated with the state of affairs around me, I normally work that off by preparing some sweet! This is a sure shot way for me to regain my better senses and the resulting outcome is sweet! Sweet right?? During the process of making the sweet, I get so involved in the process that it is blissful and these emotions of a happy mind do get on to add to the flavour.. Few weeks back, since I needed to get back to my happy state, I conjured up a version of this using just Bajra flour. The result was amazing, but since I had made just few of the same, did not blog it. Appa Amma and two of my colleagues loved it!

This time Amma suggested we use a mix of Jowar and Bajra. The result is super delicious. These can be made very easily and have a shelf life of more than a month... provided they last till then!

INGREDIENTS

1 cup Flaxseed
1/2 cup Bajra | Pearl Millet flour
1/2 cup Jowar Flour
1/4 cup Walnut, coarsely ground
3/4 cup Powdered Sugar
1/2 cup Homemade Ghee | Clarified butter
1/2  tsp Elaichi | Cardamom Powder

METHOD
  • In a pan dry roast flaxseeds. Once cool, powder and keep aside
  • In the same pan, add Ghee (keeping aside 2 tblspns) and roast Jowar and Bajra flour till an aromatic smell wafts across. Take care that the flours do not get burnt. This process should take about 3 minutes.
  • To this roasted flours add the flaxseed powder, coarsely ground walnut, powdered sugar and elaichi powder and mix well.
  • Remove this mix into a bowl.
  • Take the mixture and applying little pressure, make small lemon sized roundel. In case the mixture is crumbly add the 2 tblspns of Ghee that was kept aside. Make the remaining ladoos.
  • This quantity makes about 18 to 20  Flaxseed Millet Walnut Ladoos.
  • Once cool, store in an air tight container and enjoy these for about a month!

This is very easy to make. This can be made for any Puja as Prasadam, during festivals...or JLT :)

We have used:
