Kanda Poha

The smell of freshly made Kanda Poha is so alluring that you actually salivate! Easy to make, with super delicious flavours, this is our favourite breakfast item.

This can also be packed as a tiffin | snack box  option for kids.

Flattened Rice Flakes Breakfast option

Ingredients:
250 gms Poha | Flattened rice flakes | Aval 
3 Green Chillies, finely chopped
2 Onion, medium sized, finely chopped
2 tblsp Lemon Juice
1/4 tsp Haldi | Turmeric Powder
1 tsp Jeera | Cumin
1/8 tsp Hing| Asofoetida Powder
1 tblsp Groundnut | Peanut
1/2 tsp Rai | Mustard Seeds
1/2 tsp White Til | Sesame Seeds, dry roasted
1/4 tsp Chana Dal
1/4 tsp Urad Dal
1 sprig Curry Leaves
1 tblsp Fresh Dhania | Coriander Leaves, finely chopped
1/2 tsp Sugar (Optional)
1 tblsp Oil
To taste Salt

Method:
  1. Wash the poha gently in water and drain the water completely. Keep the drained poha aside.
  2. In a kadhai, add oil and when the oil is hot, add the peanut and saute for a minute. 
  3. Add jeera. rai, chana dal. urad dal and curry leaves. 
  4. When the rai splutters, add the hing, onion and green chillies. 
  5. Saute till the onion becomes translucent (not brown). 
  6. Add the haldi and mix well.
  7. Turn the gas flame to low and then add the drained poha.
  8. Add the salt and  gently mix well.
  9. Cover and cook for 2 minutes. After 2 minutes, remove the lid and gently mix the poha well. Cover and cook for 1 more minute and then switch off the flame.
  10. Add the lemon juice, dry roasted til, half of the chopped dhania leaves and sugar and mix well.
  11. Transfer to a serving plate and garnish with the remaining dhania leaves. 
  12. Serve hot with lemon wedges and a cup of Adrak Masala Chai.
Many styles in which Kanda Poha can be made..some that add freshly grated coconut to garnishing it with sev..but we share with you the one that we love...made with lots of love, little bit of oil and loads of flavour! Hope you love this..please do share your experience with us!

Kindly use the Poha meant for making Kanda Poha. It is a medium sized variety.
