The aromatic smell of a humble upama brings a sheepish smile to my mind. Yet another quick breakfast recipe which can be made nutritious by adding many vegetables to the same.
Today we made Onion Peas Upama for breakfast. Sharing the same with all of you.
INGREDIENTS
1 cup Rava | Semolina
1 Onion, medium sized, finely chopped
1/4 cup Peas
3 Green chillies. finely chopped
1 tspn Adrak | Ginger, finely chopped
1 sprig Curry leaf
1/2 tsp Rai | Mustard seeds
1/2 tsp Split Urad dal
2 tspn Til | Sesame Oil
2 cups Water
To taste Salt
METHOD
- Roast the rava for 5 minutes. Transfer the roasted rava to a plate.
- Add oil in a pan and when the oil is hot, add the rai seeds.
- When the rai splutters, add the urad dal and curry leaves.
- Once the Urad dal changes color, add onion, ginger and green chillies.
- Saute for about 2 to 3 minutes.
- Add the peas and saute for 1 minute.
- Add water and salt.
- When the water begins to boil, on a medium flame, add the roasted rava slowly, continuously stirring to ensure no lumps are formed.
- Switch off the flame when the upama is done.
- Serve it with Thenga Chutney and/or Sambar. Just a sprinkle of sugar along with this upama also tastes awesome!
