Thirumadhuram - A No Cook Traditional Sweet

Recently with many guests visiting us, we were in a dilemma as to what is to be done with dozens of bananas!!! Amma used them as Prasadam on a daily basis, shared few with friends and still there were few left out! And these were beginning to become really ripe! Since this month we chose to have no deep fried item, Pazham Poli | Bun Poli was ruled out!

So Amma made this wonderful NO COOK recipe - Thirumadhuram! This was today morning Puja's Naivedhyam! Tastes super delicious!

Thirumadhuram

INGREDIENTS

4 Yelakki | Elaichi Banana, nicely ripe, finely chopped
2 tblsp Vellam | Gur | Jaggery, grated
1 tblsp Honey
1 tblsp Homemade Ghee | Clarified Butter
1/4 tsp Elaichi | Cardamom Powder
10 Raisins
5 Cashew nuts, chopped
1/2 tblsp Kalkandu | Kadhi Shakkar | Mishri | Rock Sugar, broken to small pieces

METHOD
  • In a vessel add chopped bananas and grated gur. With a masher, mix them well such that the gur along with the banana becomes a thick liquid. Few banana chunks may still be present. Just ensure the gur is blended well.
  • Add honey, ghee, elaichi powder, few raisins and few cashew nut. Mix well.
  • Transfer to a serving bowl. Garnish with remaining raisins and cashew nut.
  • Thirumadhuram is ready to be offered as Naivedhyam.
We make this during Ganesh Chathurthi, Varalakshmi Puja and sometimes for Friday Puja. Whenever the bananas become very ripe Amma will make this as prasadam for that day. Else if in mood to have a deep fried prasadam, it gets the form of Bun Poli!

We used Yelakki | Elaichi Banana..you can use Nendran Banana or the regular Robusta Banana too! Infact sometimes we make a combination of the three! Just ensure the bananas are really ripe!
