Chakkarai Aval Pori is a sweet kurmura. This is made as a prasadam during Karthigai Deepam. During school days, this used to be a favourite snack item and all my friends used to love this. We used to wait for Karthigai Deepam as Amma made this only for the occasion!
100 gms Aval Pori | Puffed Rice
200 gms Sugar
1 tsp Coconut, diced into small pieces
1/4 tsp Elaichi | Cardamom Powder
1 tsp Ghee | Clarified Butter
1/2 cup Water
Method:
- Clean the Aval Pori for any husks. stone, black colored Pori and seive it to remove dust, if any. Keep aside.
- In a Kadai, add water, sugar and diced coconut and keep on high flame. Keep stirring it continuously till the sugar dissolves.
- When the sugar syrup attains one string consistency switch off the flame.
- Add the Aval Pori, Ghee and Elaichi Powder and mix well.
- The sugar syrup must get nicely coated on the Aval Pori. The Aval Pori will be separated. There may be few chunks of Aval Pori, but thats not an issue.
- Once they come to room temperature, store them in an air-tight container.
Whenever Amma makes this for Karthigai Deepam, after the pujai, while eating the prasadam, I first check for the chunks of Aval Pori as they taste amazing!
This can be made for kids as a sweet snack.
