Nel Pori Urrundai | Jaggery Puffed Rice Ladoo

Nel Pori Urrundai is a specific Naivedyam for Karthigai Deepam festival. This is one of the many specialties of  Amma and tastes simply divine!

Very easy to make...

Jagerry Puffed Rice Ladoo


Ingredients:
100 gms Nel Pori
200 gms Jaggery
1 tblsp Fresh Coconut, diced into small pieces
1/2 tsp Soonth | Dry Ginger | Chukku Powder
1 tsp Ghee | Clarified Butter
1/2 cup water

Method:
  • Clean the Nel Pori of any husks | stones and keep aside.
  • In a heavy bottomed pan, add water and place on high flame.
  • Add the Jaggery, coconut slices and soonth powder.
  • Make a 1 string consistency Jaggery syrup and switch off the gas.
  • Add the Nel Pori and ghee and mix well.
  • The syrup must be coated well on the Nel Pori.
  • Apply a bit of ghee on your palms and while the Nel Pori is still warm, make Urrundai | Balls of them.
  • Take a fistful and gently give them a shape of the ball and then press a bit fimer. if you press firm in the beginning, you may not be able to make Urrundai | Balls.
  • Store them in an air tight container.

Note:
Though Nel Pori is a puffed rice, its shape and texture is different than the normal puffed rice | Kurmura. This is available  in shops only during Karthigai Deepam festival. You can also make this with any type of puffed rice.
