In a month atleast 1 Friday for the evening puja Naivedyam, Amma makes a sweet. Karamani Payaru | Cow Gram Sweet Sundal is our favourite as its made with Vellam | Jaggery | Gur and the Karamani Payaru is very nutritious. This combination is just awesome!
Appa loves this and during Navratri Amma makes this during one of the 9 days. This is also made as a sweet during Thottil Podal | Cradle Ceremony of newborn! Sometimes Amma makes this for Thai Poosam also!
Ingredients:
100 gm Karamani Payaru | Cow Gram
100 gm Jaggery | Gur | Vellam, grated
1/2 tsp Ghee | Clarified Butter
1/2 tsp Elaichi | Cardamom Powder
1 tsp Coconut, freshly grated
Method:
- In a pan, heat the Karamani Payaru for just 2 minutes. This is done so that even after the Sundal is made, the Payaru remains soft.
- Pressure cook the Payaru for 7 whistles.
- In a thick-bottom Kadhai, add the grated Jaggery and the cooked Karamani Payaru. Stir well.
- Add the ghee.
- Cook till the water evaporates.
- Switch off the gas. Sprinkle the cardamom powder and grated coconut. Mix well.
- Serve hot / cold.
This is very easy to make and tastes so delicious. We do hope you will try this and share your experience with us! Hoping to hear from you soon...
