Potato Peel Thogaiyal | Potato Peel Chutney

I like to go in for Organic FnV's as much as possible and came across an online portal selling Organic Fruits and Vegetables. I wanted to try out and so got the first lot from them! Appa was skeptical as to the authenticity and said how can we be sure if it is Organic...I have no answer to that but trust that people who sell things as Organic are doing it with bonafide interests only!

So...anyway! Amma made some yummy Alu Beans Sabzi today and since these were the organic type Alu's, Amma had preserved the peels to make this yummy chutney, which is so easy to make! Amma always amazes me by her unique recipes from ingredients which in my wildest imagination I would not have thought to bring to use!

I love this chutney and pack this up as my veg sandwich spread and Tea Time Snacks is truly GoodDay rather than any empty calories!

Potato Peel Thogaiyal

INGREDIENTS

2 Potatoes Peel
1 Onion, roughly chopped
1/2 Lemon sized Imli | Tamarind
Small Pea size Hing | Asafoetida Compounded
2 sprig Kadhi Patta | Curry Leaves
1 tblsp Fresh Dhania | Coriander Leaves
1 tsp Oil
To taste Salt
For Dry Roasting
2 tblsp Dhania | Coriander Seeds
2 tblsp Urad Dal
1/2 tsp Black Til | Sesame Seeds
3 Sukhi Lal Mirchi | Dried Red Chilli

METHOD
  • Wash the potatoes well and soak them in water for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, wash them well and peel them. You can use the peeled potatoes for any other recipe!
  • In a frying pan, dry roast Dhania seed, Urad Dal, Black Til and Sukhi Lal Mirch. Once their color starts changing, remove and keep this spice mixture aside.
  • In the same frying pan, add oil and hing. When the hing puffs up remove and keep it along with spice mixture.
  • In the same frying pan, saute for 2 minutes the potato peel, onion and curry leaves.
  • Add imli and saute for a minute. Switch off the gas and transfer the sauteed potato peel mix to a plate to cool.
  • Once cool, rough grind the spice mixture first. Then add the sauteed potato peel mix, chopped dhania leaves and salt. Sprinkle a bit of water to enable the grinding.
  • Grind to make a thick Thogaiyal | Chutney.
Amma mixes this Thogaiyal to her glass of buttermilk and makes an awesome Masala Buttermilk. The Potato Peel Thogaiyal | Potato Peel Chutney can be had with Rice | Roti or even as a Dip | Spread. We relished this awesome Thogaiyal along with Sweet Peas Paratha.

We have used:
1. Go4Fresh's Organic Alu's Peel
2. Borges Olive Oil Light
3. Tata Salt Lite
