Onion Paratha | Indian Onion Flatbread

I tasted Onion Paratha for the first time in 2009 in Pune. I was on an official visit and was put up in a guest house. There we had a great chef who was kind enough to make for me food as per my requirements - less oil - no red chilli powder. This used to be served as breakfast and I just loved it. So made it a point to jot down the recipe from him! Traditionally this is a Rajasthani Cuisine and this has red chilli powder in it and is made with Ghee|Clarified Butter! Some how my system is not tolerant to this spice but can relish Green Chillies | Black Pepper! So when Amma makes this wonderful Onion Paratha, it is with Green Chillies!

Onions which are sweet add even more flavour to this wonderful Paratha. Amma loves onion in any form...so she was very glad to try this out and even more glad when Appa loved it too! From then, this is one option for Parathas which we love to make either as Breakfast | Lunch!

  • Place the rolled Paratha on the hot tava..let one side cook for about 2 minutes. Flip to the other side. Gently drizzle very little Oil on its surface. Once both the sides have got golden brown spots, the Paratha is done. Continue similarly for the remaining parathas.
