Mambahza Pachadi - a sweet savoury made with Ripe Mangoes!

Summer brings in the most awaited fruit - MANGO! Be it raw or ripe and the various varieties that is easily available, it is totally a celebration by preparing various recipes be it sweet, savoury, preserves, refreshers or pickles!

Mambahza Pachadi is one such sweet savoury as ripe mangoes are used with perfect tempering to give it an exotic taste. This is usually one of the menu items in luncheons for SouthIndian weddings arranged in Summer! Another gem from the wonderful Kerala Cuisine!

We love this delicious Mambahza Pachadi and relish this as a side dish along with a host of things right from Dosas to Rotis to Rice to Parathas or even as a Sandwich Spread!

Mambahza Pachadi

INGREDIENTS

2 Ripe Mangoes
2 tblsp Vellam | Gur | Jaggery, grated
1/2 tsp Haldi | Turmeric Powder
1/4 cup Water
1/4 tsp Salt
1 tsp Rai | Mustard Seeds
8 Kadhi Patta | Curry Leaves
1 Sukhi Lal Mirch | Dried Red Chilli, broken to three
1/2 tsp Oil

METHOD
  • Wash and peel the mangoes. Cut them to bite size pieces.
  • Add haldi and water and pressure cook the mangoes for 3 whistles.
  • Once the pressure is released, remove the cooked mangoes and slightly mash them with the back of a laddle. 
  • Transfer the mangoes to a kadhai and add grated gur and salt. Cook for 5 minutes on a low flame. Stir occasionally.
  • Switch off the gas and transfer to a serving bowl.
  • In a small pan, heat oil and add rai, curry leaves and dried red chilli. When rai splutters, pour tempering on top of Mambahza Pachadi.
  • Serve along with Rice | Roti | Paratha.
We relished this sweet Mambazha Pachadi along with Phulka Roti.
