Jeera Rice | Cumin Rice

The aromatic Jeera Rice makes a wonderful lunch option! Jeera | Cumin has a plethora of health benefits and a steaming plate of this aromatic Jeera Rice with Dal | Kadhi is just YUM!

Jeera Rice

INGREDIENTS

200 gm Basmati Rice
2 cups Water
1 tsp Jeera | Cumin Seeds
10 Kali Miri | Black Pepper
1/4 tsp Jeera | Cumin Powder
1 tsp Oil | Homemade Ghee | Clarified Butter
To taste Salt

METHOD
  • Wash and soak Basmati Rice for 30 minutes.
  • In a non stick kadhai, add the oil|ghee. When the oil|ghee gets hot add jeera and black pepper. 
  • Add the soaked Basmati Rice, water and salt. Mix well.
  • When this comes to a boil, cover and cook on a low flame for 10 - 15 minutes or till the rice is cooked. Check after 10 minutes and gently from the sides, stir the rice ensuring the rice strands do not break.
  • Once the Jeera Rice is cooked, switch off the gas, add the jeera powder and fluff up the Jeera rice gently.
  • Serve hot with any Dal | Kadhi, roasted papada and Salad.
This rice is also made during Aadi Perukku also known as Aadi 18 along with various other types of Rice like Thaiyr Sadam, Puliyodharai, Coconut Rice, Pepper Rice, Black Til Rice, Lemon Rice,  Venpongal and Sakkarai Pongal.
