Oats Khichadi

Something light, something warm...a bit of pepper...goodness of oats...nutrition from sprouts and veggies...hmmm....how about lovely Oats Khichadi? This was the process of ideation leading to this nutritious Khichadi...a lovely light dinner option...easy to make with no compromise on flavour and health!

Oats Khichadi has become a regular breakfast or light dinner option at home. 

Oats Khichadi

Ingredients:
4 tblsp Oats
8 tblsp Water
1 tblsp Carrot, finely chopped
1 tblsp Green Moong Dal Sprouts
8 Tendli | Ivy Gourd, cut to round slices
1/2 tsp Kali Miri | Black Pepper Seed, coarsely ground
1/4 tsp Haldi | Turmeric Powder
1/2 tsp Jeera | Cumin Seeds
1/4 tsp Saunf | Fennel Seeds
1 tsp Oil
To taste Salt

Method:
  • In a non-stick Kadhai, heat the oil. Add jeera and pepper. 
  • When they begin to splutter add all the vegetables and sprouts. 
  • Add haldi and saute for a minute.
  • Add water and keep on low flame.
  • When the vegetable cooks, approximately within 3 minutes, add oats and salt. 
  • Mix well and cover and cook for 2 minutes.
  • Check to ensure oats is cooked. Once done, transfer to serving bowl.
  • Serve hot.
The Oats Khichadi can be served with any Raita | Pickles. This tastes good when it is hot!
